Abstract

Community service was carried out in Pusuk 1, Parlilitan District, Humbang Hasundutan Regency. Explains the technology on how to make PSB (Photosynthsis bacteria) and its benefits on horticultural plants (vegetables, fruit and ornamental plants). The community or farmer group in Pusuk I village is very enthusiastic and happy with the community service in that place. Farming groups know how to make their own PSB with cheap capital that can be used for their farming. Where farmers need both organic and inorganic fertilizers which can help increase their agricultural productivity. Likewise with the people of Pusuk I Village, located in Parlilitan District, Humbahas Regency, who are still very active as farmers and planters. However, most farmers in the village still rely on inorganic fertilizers which can have a negative impact on the surrounding ecosystem and tend to cost more than organic fertilizers. To overcome this problem, community service was carried out by the Faculty of Agriculture, Agrotechnology Study Program, Sisingamangaraja XII Tapanuli University regarding the manufacture of organic photosynthetic bacteria (PSB) fertilizer. This activity aims to optimize farmers' resources so that they are able to make PSB fertilizer independently and use it as a supporting fertilizer that can maximize agricultural productivity and reduce the use of inorganic fertilizers. The implementation of this community service begins with measuring farmers' knowledge about PSB fertilizer, then providing PSB fertilizer material, distributing ready-made PSB fertilizer made on the UNITA campus to the community, and finally providing motivation to farmers that the resulting PSB fertilizer product can be a business opportunity. Before being demonstrated directly to farmers, PSB fertilizer had gone through experiments and trials on shallot plants during the implementation of PKL (Field Work Practices, Faculty of Agriculture, Agrotechnological Study Program, Sisingamangaraja XII Tapanuli University from April to July 2023 in Paranginan Village, Regency Humbahas). The result of this community service is an increase in farmers' knowledge about alternative fertilizers, namely PSB fertilizer and how to make it.
